Two applications of lady in black

After one application of the matte top coat

After two applications of the matte top coat
Lady in Black (L) and Matte top coat (R)

I'm going black for the week just for the sake of an awards night I've got coming up at work. I am planing to wear  an all black outfit,so I thought black nails would be great to go along with the colour theme I have planned for my outfit. As much I love the glossy finish, I couldn't help but try on the matte top coat again having only used it just two weeks ago. From using the matte top coat this time round that it is essential to apply a minimum of two coatings as just one coat is not sufficient.

How To Style Colourful Brights

A look at a few ways to style a colourful coat. A bright coloured coat will nearly always be the standout piece of an outfit so it is essential that you pair it with colours that compliment the shade and won't be competing for attention with the coat. Take for instance this bright yellow mustard coat from Cedric Charlier, I have used to illustrated the few ways in which you could create a look with a bright coloured coat.

Style look 1

For look one, I have chosen dark yet complimentary colours to go with the coat and it is a well known fact that purple and yellow go well together given that they are in fact complimentary colours. Which means they will generally always look good next to each other. Having dark toned clothing allows the yellow coat to standout and choosing colours that compliment the coat is a plus.

Style look 2

For look two, the coat is not the standout piece as the bright blue trousers commands equal attention as the coat. Its a perfect combination of colours to wear during the spring season when its getting warmer but its not warm enough to ditch the coat. As it happen orange and blue are also complimentary colours allowing the orange shoes to sit well with the blue trousers harmoniously.

Style look 3
The coat is once again the standout piece with look 3 and there are two colours that will always compliment a bright coloured garment and that is white and black. If ever in doubt on what to match a bright coloured item you can play it safe with either of these colours and it will always work well. I geared more towards black for look 3 with a hint of other colours to create a nice burst of colours.

After having grey nail varnish on for last week, I wanted to switch things up a bit and go for a brighter shade and what better colour to go for than Mermaid's Tears by OPI. Its a lovely pastel green shade to add a touch of colour to any outfit and I feel it compliments my complexion pretty well.  Its a bright shade but not too bright for the winter season which is good so it will go well with the winter colour schemes around.

I didn't have much time to let them dry so instead of going for my usual top coat to finish rings off with, I tried this Revlon liquid quick dry nail varnish I got a while back and I wasn't completely satisfied with it. Although it does help speed the drying process, It doesn't leave your nails with a 'high gloss" finish that it claims to do, so that was a bit disappointing. Looks like I will have use my usual top coat to go over things when I do get some time.

Nail varnish without matte top coat
Nail varnish with matte top coat

OPI matte top coat and  Sephora nail varnish
I finally got round to using my OPI top coat and I am loving it, I dont know why I didn't purchase one sooner! I do love my glossy look but a matte finish makes for a really nice change. I started of with one base coat application before preceding with three coats of the Sephora nail varnish as seen in the first picture before rounding things off with two coats of the OPI matte top coat.

DIY Snaps

It's been raining a lot in London for the past few weeks and the rain makes a hat even more handy, not only will it serve the purpose keeping my hair dry but it also completes an outfit look. I had wanted this kitty ears hat from the first time I saw it on the Zara website but when I finally did pop in store and tried it on, I wasn't too keen on it so I ended up not getting it. Which was obviously a huge mistake because when I did change my mind over it, it was sold out in store and online and in all the other stores selling it. I nearly gave up on ever getting my hands on it, that was until I came across it on ebay for a fraction of the price it was being sold in stores, so off course I had to get my hands on it and taa daa, here I am wearing it!

Whenever I'm having a lazy day, I just throw on some skinny jeans and baggy jumper as you can see above in the picture and that's me pretty much done. It's definitely not my most stylish look that's for sure!

DIY Snaps

With my photographer being busy these days, I thought I would take matter into my own hands for a bit and take a DIY approach to sharing my style looks with you. I apologise for the picture quality, I don't always get it right with the iPhone as it happens.  This was an outfit I wore last week to a new years day gathering at a friend's house. It was a laid back event hence the laid back look although I do think the heels helped to glam the whole look. I completed my outfit with my clear clutch and a few rings which aren't photographed and that was me done, ready to head out to eat, drink and be merry above all things.

Rihanna, The New Face of MAC Viva Glam

There had been rumours circulating that Rihanna would be the new face of MAC's Viva Glam and this has now been confirmed by Rihanna herself with the release of the official  promotional ad  campaign on her twitter page. As with previous viva glam campaigns all sale proceeds from  the Rihanna Viva Glam will be going to those affected by HIV/Aids.

It arrives online in North America on January 21st but for those of us leaving outside those territories we will have to wait patiently on a release date. I have no doubt there will be a frenzy over this lipstick and this time round it will be well worth it because the proceeds will be going to a good cause.

A few pictures have surfaced online from journalists and a lucky few who were given exclusive access to view the product back in November and from what I've seen online Rihanna's Viva Glam lipstick appears to be a frosty red lipstick. I could be wrong but this is what I can gage from the pictures I have seen online. You can preview the lipstick below to decide for yourself, Is it frosty or not and will you be rushing to get a tube?

You can peep a picture of me wearing the Rihanna Viva Glam lipstick here!

New Shades For The New Year

It's a New Year and well I guess you can expect new releases. Right up there is Nails Inc who have introduced new shades to add to their already popular gel effect collection and I for one could not be happier. I got Kensington High Street and St. James gel effect from the previous collection and I am absolutely in love with them, Kensington High Street especially because the shade is just perfect for the current autumn/winter season.

In the new release they will be introducing a number of additional shades  that will be released throughout 2014 and the colours will fit in perfectly with the season's hottest colours that we are sure to be bombarded with with throughout the whole year. You can expect to see hues of pastel which will be released just in time for the spring along with bright bold shades in time for the summer season. To start of the new year Nails Inc are giving us a little taster of what to expect with the release of the vibrant blue shade (Mercer Street) and a hot pink shade (Downtown) along with a more angelic soft pink shade (Mayfair Lane) which I think may very well be my favourite so far from the new shades. I cannot wait to get my hands on these and try them out, thats for sure!

You can peep below some of the additional gel effect polish shades that are yet to come our way. I'm full of all sorts of excitement from just looking at the new shades that I will hopefully be adding to my nail varnish collection. The lovely pastel shades of blue and purple are right up my alley and the vibrant green shade is a must for me. Do you see any new shades that may tempt you to splurge from this collection?
