Wearing the Maxi Skirt in Autumn/Winter

I've been teasing this long for far too long over on my Instagram so it was about time I shared it up on here and explained the concept behind the look. The idea of wearing summer pieces in the cold is enough to give anyone cold chills but when adopted in the proper manner you could pull off summer pieces in the winter month's with ease.

For this look the discerning piece I chose was a maxi skirt, one that I have had in my wardrobe for a couple of years. I must say that it is not your typical maxi skirt with a lightweight fabric ideal to beat the summer heat. The fabric composition consists of a wool mix thus making it somewhat acceptable to wear in the cold.

My trick to getting away with wearing summer pieces in the winter months is to either layer them up or pair them with winter pieces. It's one of the ways in which you can stretch your summer wardrobe pieces into the winter. For this look, I chose the latter option of pairing the maxi skirt with a turtle/polo neck knit jumper and given that we all pretty much associate the polo neck knit with a winter look, it instantly gives the whole outfit those winter vibes.

It's a simple approach that you can all recreate to stretch the wears out of some of your summer favs.

Nails Inc Dirty Unicorn Collection

After popular reception to the release of the unicorn duo polish earlier this year, Nails inc released the dirty unicorn collection. This new collection can be seen as a succession to satisfy the unicorn lovers out there with some darker shades for the autumn winter season.

Pictured above are the four shades from the dirty unicorn collection, (L-R) Hot to Trot, Shake that Tail, Rainbow Hooves, The Mane Attraction which I have swatched for you below. The polishes from the collection have that iridescent finish giving the illusion of another colour depending on how the light/sun reflects off the polish. This is more visible in the Shake that Tail polish amongst the other polishes from the collection as you can see from the pictures below.

Painting the Town Red with Debenhams

Year after year, we’re all looking for that one or maybe two or three coat(s) to see us through the autumn/winter season and I happen to be no different in that respect. This a/w season, I have been seeking a new coat that will help to revive my a/w wardrobe.

I often tend to shy away from seasonal trends when making a coat selection but this season I have found myself opting for an in trend seasonal piece in the form of a bold red coat that I picked up from Debenhams. As you may or may not know, the check print, along with the military inspired coats and the colour red are very much on trend for AW17.

The military inspired coats have always been a firm favourite of mine. For me it is one of those classic styles that adds a touch of sophistication to any outfit. There's something about the gold button detailing along with the oversized lapels found in some designs that elevates any look and adds a sophisticated touch. The military inspired coat is one of those pieces that can be worn during the working week and can equally compliment your weekend attire.

The check print is having its comeback this season and it is coming back in all forms but I would say that it is making a bigger impact in the outerwear department. I cannot tell you the amount of bloggers that I have sported rocking a check print blazer or coat. It is definitely a popular choice among blogger's right now.

3. RED

I opted for a red coat simply because I already have a couple of military inspired coats in my closet along with a number of check print pieces. The one thing I feel is lacking from my a/w wardrobe is some vibrant bold shades as I often find myself gearing to darker shades like navy during the autumn/winter months.

It may have something to do with the fact that I've been seeing a lot of Red on the blogs, magazines and in the shops which has somehow led to me wanting to grab a collection of red pieces. I thought I would kick start things off by first grabbing a red statement coat and  fortunately for me Debenhams had a varied range of red coats for me to choose from to satisfy my red cravings.

I went for the Hobbs Red Tilda coat because for me it encapsulates my style choice whilst also adding a pop of colour to my look that can see me from day to night. There are also a few other red coats that caught my eye:

I've gone ahead and put together a few style looks below to illustrate the numerous in which I will be wearing my new red coat over the coming months.

Autumn Knits

The Autumn season can some times be a tricky one to muster when it comes to the outfit choices because for one it is not hot enough to parade around in ones skimpy clothing without an outerwear piece and two it is not yet cold enough to drag out that thick long wool coat. Thus in the early stages of Autumn I tend to dress like it is still summer with added piece of an outerwear to keep warm.

I love it when I come across pieces like this ribbed knit dress that is in the style of a summer piece but constructed with an autumnal fabric composition. It allows me to hold onto to the fleeting summer season that little bit longer and even when it gets colder, I can layer underneath and on top to keep warm. This is one piece that I plan to wear a great deal off during the coming month.

I also the fact that it is not form fitting thus for me it makes it very comfortable piece to wear and to also conceal any food baby that may become prominent during the course of the day.
