Painting the Town Red with Debenhams

Year after year, we’re all looking for that one or maybe two or three coat(s) to see us through the autumn/winter season and I happen to be no different in that respect. This a/w season, I have been seeking a new coat that will help to revive my a/w wardrobe.

I often tend to shy away from seasonal trends when making a coat selection but this season I have found myself opting for an in trend seasonal piece in the form of a bold red coat that I picked up from Debenhams. As you may or may not know, the check print, along with the military inspired coats and the colour red are very much on trend for AW17.

The military inspired coats have always been a firm favourite of mine. For me it is one of those classic styles that adds a touch of sophistication to any outfit. There's something about the gold button detailing along with the oversized lapels found in some designs that elevates any look and adds a sophisticated touch. The military inspired coat is one of those pieces that can be worn during the working week and can equally compliment your weekend attire.

The check print is having its comeback this season and it is coming back in all forms but I would say that it is making a bigger impact in the outerwear department. I cannot tell you the amount of bloggers that I have sported rocking a check print blazer or coat. It is definitely a popular choice among blogger's right now.

3. RED

I opted for a red coat simply because I already have a couple of military inspired coats in my closet along with a number of check print pieces. The one thing I feel is lacking from my a/w wardrobe is some vibrant bold shades as I often find myself gearing to darker shades like navy during the autumn/winter months.

It may have something to do with the fact that I've been seeing a lot of Red on the blogs, magazines and in the shops which has somehow led to me wanting to grab a collection of red pieces. I thought I would kick start things off by first grabbing a red statement coat and  fortunately for me Debenhams had a varied range of red coats for me to choose from to satisfy my red cravings.

I went for the Hobbs Red Tilda coat because for me it encapsulates my style choice whilst also adding a pop of colour to my look that can see me from day to night. There are also a few other red coats that caught my eye:

I've gone ahead and put together a few style looks below to illustrate the numerous in which I will be wearing my new red coat over the coming months.

Autumn Knits

The Autumn season can some times be a tricky one to muster when it comes to the outfit choices because for one it is not hot enough to parade around in ones skimpy clothing without an outerwear piece and two it is not yet cold enough to drag out that thick long wool coat. Thus in the early stages of Autumn I tend to dress like it is still summer with added piece of an outerwear to keep warm.

I love it when I come across pieces like this ribbed knit dress that is in the style of a summer piece but constructed with an autumnal fabric composition. It allows me to hold onto to the fleeting summer season that little bit longer and even when it gets colder, I can layer underneath and on top to keep warm. This is one piece that I plan to wear a great deal off during the coming month.

I also the fact that it is not form fitting thus for me it makes it very comfortable piece to wear and to also conceal any food baby that may become prominent during the course of the day.

Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Lips

I have been a fan of Charlotte Tilbury's matte lipsticks for quite some time now so when she released her matte liquid lipstick collection, I was beyond eager to get my hands on it and try it out. Fortunately enough for me I was sent a few samples of the matte liquid lipstick from Charlotte Tilbury's Hollywood lips collection to try out so I have gone ahead and tried them on for you and you can check them out below.

There are about ten shades in the Hollywood Lips collection and I was sent three (Rising Star, Too Bad I'm Bad and Screen Siren) matte lipsticks from the Hollywood lips collection that I chose myself as I felt these shades would compliment my skin shade and I wasn't wrong about that.

I'll admit that I was most hesitant about trying on Rising Star. Although the colour shade looks darker on the website once I received the lipstick and had it in my hand I felt the shade looked a little lighter than I was expecting. However with the aid of my brown lip liner it looked pretty good on and as you can see from the images above, it compliments dark skin tones pretty well. Rising Star has now become my favourite pink lipstick to wear and I find myself wanting to wear it nearly every day now.

Once I had tried on Rising Star, I had no doubt that Too Bad I'm Bad would suit me and look good on my skin complexion given that that it is a slightly darker shade of pink. It's a little bolder in colour than Rising Star and a welcome addition to my shades of pink. If I consider Rising Star to be my everyday lipstick shade, then Too Bad I'm Bad is what I would call my going-out-to-the bar shade of lipstick.

I always feel like you can't go wrong with a red shade of lipstick and Screen Siren is one of those crimson shades that is bound to suit any and everyone. I fell in love with this shade the minute came across it on the website and when I got my hands on it, I had no doubt nor hesitation that it would suit me. I also happen to feel like the texture of Screen Siren is a little bit more smoother in comparison to the other two lipsticks. It seems to be that bit more creamier and I love that!

Overall, I found all the lipsticks I tried on from the hollywood lips collection to be non drying and long lasting on the lips. I was pleasantly surprised by it's staying power on the lips having worn them for an entire day without feeling the need to top up. I found the texture to be paste like and fast drying which is a plus for me. I am now eager to try out some more shades from the collection and I will share those with you as soon as I manage to get my hands on more. I must say that Charlotte Tilbury really nailed it with this product and it may just topple the Hot lips lipstick collection as my favourite lipstick product from Charlotte Tilbury.
